C. LOKUS
Allow me to introduce myself, C. Lokus from Los Angeles, CA. Born and raised in Mid-City, a section of Los Angeles, this city taught me how to carry myself and stand tall. The lessons I learned here contributed to the man I am today as well as shape the locus of my purpose in this world.
Deciding to become an artist was no easy decision. Growing up during the 1990’s in Mid-City obstacles where put in front of me on a regular basis. In L.A. the 1990’s was another era of gangs, drugs, tag bangers, and graffiti. It was easy to get lost in a city so dangerous yet it was so full of life and beauty.
In 1997 I decided to take the graffiti route. My parents were not happy since they had a preconception of graffiti as being “bad.” They already had trouble with my older brother and his vandalism antics, but I could not help myself. The freedom behind this form of expression grabbed me, spoke to me and allowed me the opportunity to truly express myself without having the "guidelines" of traditional art forms.
Throughout the years I progressed with the help of a good foundation: family, good friends, and teachers. I knew I needed to develop my style and craft, which meant never settling for mediocrocy. This was the only way I could justify my decision. Fortunately, I had countless influences along my path who contributed to my development and craft in the world of graffiti.
Eventually, I embraced all aspects of art and decided to explore the commercial side of it, becoming a scenic artist. Working with various independent shops and major companies like Disney, Mattel, and Universal Studios allowed me to further my knowledge in this world of art. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for the experiences I gained from the commercials, toy fairs, gallery rooms, theme parks restoration/builds, murals, and various extorior/interior faux finishes. In the end graffiti being the true foundation for my artistic journey.
Everyday I push my own limits and fundamentally approach each piece with respect and passion. I paint to the emotion that overcomes oneself when one is observing color. Therefore, my choices in color palettes are intended to provoke these inner emotions. My intent is to capture my audience using various combinations of styles, techniques along with an array of color theories to visually provoke the mind.

A photograph I took of an old train yard. Where the warehouse of it got hit by some heavy hitters in the graft world. I had painted a mural on the other side decided to walk around and stumbled upon this section of the fence.

A picture I took of a tag next to an opening of this abandon warehouse.

A picture my son took of me at this wall i got invited to. Fun times painting on corrigated metal..
